How to choose a TENCEL™ Lyocell fitted sheet
Learn more
Why choose a breathable fitted sheet?
A fitted sheet is one of the pieces of bed linen that remains in the closest contact with the body. The fabric you choose therefore plays an important role in how the bed feels throughout the night.
TENCEL™ Lyocell absorbs moisture and releases it again, helping create a more comfortable sleeping environment. Its smooth, supple surface also provides a different sensation from the typically drier feel of cotton or the more textured character of linen.
Breathable does not necessarily mean actively cooling. Thermal comfort also depends on the mattress, duvet, sleepwear and room temperature.
What size fitted sheet should you choose?
The fitted sheet size should match the mattress dimensions exactly. A 90 × 200 cm mattress therefore requires a 90 × 200 cm fitted sheet, while 140 × 200 cm, 160 × 200 cm and 180 × 200 cm are common sizes for double beds.
For a clean, secure fit, always measure both the width and length of your mattress before selecting your fitted sheet.
What fitted sheet pocket depth should you choose?
Pocket depth refers to the amount of fabric designed to wrap around the sides of the mattress. For a fitted sheet to stay securely in place, the pocket needs to be deep enough to cover the mattress and tuck comfortably underneath it.
It is therefore important to measure the mattress depth as well, including any mattress topper. A 160 × 200 cm fitted sheet with a 35 cm pocket, for example, is designed to wrap around a mattress of that size while leaving enough fabric to sit securely underneath.
At Maison CÉTOILE, the dimensions and pocket depths are specified for each design to help you choose the right fit.
What colour fitted sheet should you choose?
An ivory fitted sheet brings light to the bedroom and pairs naturally with soft, neutral interiors. Deeper shades such as navy blue or anthracite give the bed more character, while sage green creates a softer, more botanical atmosphere.
A fitted sheet can match the duvet cover for a harmonious monochrome look, or be chosen in a different shade to create subtle contrasts across the bed.
Maison CÉTOILE colours are designed to complement one another, allowing the bed to evolve naturally through the seasons.
TENCEL™ Lyocell or cotton fitted sheet: what is the difference?
Cotton can offer very different sensations depending on the quality of the fibre and the weave. It often has a drier feel and a more structured handle.
A TENCEL™ Lyocell fitted sheet is distinguished by its particularly smooth surface, supple drape and fluid sensation against the skin. Its ability to absorb and release moisture is another characteristic of the fibre.
The choice therefore depends largely on the sensation you prefer: more structured with many cotton fabrics, or smoother and more fluid with TENCEL™ Lyocell.
How can you recognise a high-quality fitted sheet?
The quality of a fitted sheet cannot be determined by thread count alone. Fibre quality, weave, fabric weight, stitching and the quality of the elastic all contribute to its comfort and durability.
With TENCEL™ Lyocell, the origin of the fibre is another useful consideration. Maison CÉTOILE selects TENCEL™ Lyocell from Lenzing to create TENCEL™ Lyocell bed linen with a smooth surface and fluid drape.
How to build your bed around a TENCEL™ Lyocell fitted sheet?
A fitted sheet can be a simple way to discover TENCEL™ Lyocell, as the fabric remains directly in contact with the body throughout the night.
To extend the same sensation across the bed, pair it with a TENCEL™ Lyocell duvet cover and TENCEL™ Lyocell pillowcases, either in the same shade or by combining colours from the Maison.
