How to care for your silk products to keep them beautiful for a long time
Silk is a living material.
Precious, natural, and incomparably soft, it simply asks to be treated with the same care that it gives us.
At Maison CÉTOILE , our silk pajamas, pillowcases, and accessories are designed to last. Here are a few simple steps to preserve their luster, fluidity, and beauty, day after day.
1. Before the first wash: prepare the silk
Before immersing your garment in water, take a moment to check its care label. Some silks (such as printed or hand-rolled fabrics) require dry cleaning, while others are easily hand-washed.
If your item is colored, test the colorfastness by soaking a small area in lukewarm water: genuine silk should not bleed. Also remove any jewelry or accessories that could snag the fibers—silk is fine, but it doesn't tolerate rough handling.
2. Washing: gentleness above all
Hand washing (recommended method)
Silk is ideally washed by hand.
Fill a basin with cold or lukewarm water (maximum 30°C) and add a few drops of a mild detergent, without bleaching agents or bleach.
Immerse the item and let it soak for three to five minutes. Gently massage the fabric: silk does not like to be rubbed or twisted.
Then rinse thoroughly with clean water until all traces of soap are gone. You can add a few drops of white vinegar to revive the natural shine of the fiber.
Machine washable (if the label allows it)
If you choose the machine, opt for the “delicate” or “silk” cycle .
Place the item in a protective net , set the water to cold, and never overload the drum.
Avoid strong fabric softeners and powerful stain removers: silk is sufficient on its own.
3. Drying and ironing
Gently squeeze the silk by pressing it between your hands or in a clean terry towel: never twist it.
Then let it dry flat or hanging , away from direct sunlight. Excessive heat dulls the shine and may cause slight shrinkage.
For ironing, use a warm iron set to "silk". Ironing on the reverse side or placing a thin cloth between the iron and the garment is the best way to preserve its smooth surface.
Gentle steam is ideal for restoring the fabric's fluidity without marking it.
4. Daily storage and precautions
Silk likes to breathe. Store it in a dry place, away from direct light and temperature variations.
Avoid plastic covers: opt for breathable fabric pouches , like those that accompany CÉTOILE pieces.
If you wear silk pajamas, always let them cool to room temperature before storing them. The fiber is sensitive to body heat and personal care products: perfumes, oils, or creams can stain it.
5. Mistakes to avoid
A few simple precautions will allow you to keep your coins intact:
-
❌ Never wash silk in hot water.
-
❌ Do not use bleach or abrasive products.
-
❌ Avoid the tumble dryer.
-
❌ Do not rub it against rough materials (jeans, thick towels).
-
❌ Do not leave it soaking for hours: a short immersion is sufficient.
6. A material that cares for itself like skin
Caring for silk prolongs its beauty.
Gentle washing, patient drying, delicate ironing: so many simple gestures that become care rituals.
And as with skin, regularity makes all the difference.
At Maison CÉTOILE , we believe that a well-maintained product retains its shine and its soul.
Because true luxury is not fleeting — it is cultivated, night after night.
